Fifth Grade
The students love the foil project! They learn how to create lines of repetition with foil! They learn techniques with foil and ass color with Sharpie color markers. The textures are beautiful!
There are two versions to the Victorian architecture unit. One is 2D and the other is a pop up. Students then begin their study of Victorian architecture and create pop up haunted houses! They are SO MUCH FUN! The students begin by designing the backgrounds. They choose a color scheme and add a moon and a creepy tree. They then design the ground and begin the house structure. They then carefully design the houses themselves. They add Victorian elements to their projects and details which make the creations look authentic.
Students learn watercolor techniques and special effects and apply their skills to a graphic art project of Illumination.
The students moved forward with the next unit and began studying Australia Indigenous Culture or Aboriginal Culture. The students reviewed authentic Aboriginal artist Nellie Marks Nakamara. The students then used their sketchbooks to plan and design their own dot painting inspired by the rich Aboriginal painting. Below are some of the artworks from the unit. The students mix paint colors and create the dots with Q-tips.
Students then move on to a unit working with clay!
Students work on a optical illusion assignment.
CONTOUR
The students finish the year by building their skills with contour artwork. We learn what contour drawing is. We use artist Alberto Giacometti and the Surrealism movement for inspiration for a wire sculpture figure.
